SherCo Plus 1964 Season (PR)

SKU: SHR-1964plpr Category:

Twelve games to play. A six-and-a-half game lead. And a story that echoes down the halls of baseball history.

When the sun rose on September 21, the Philadelphia club stood on the cusp of their first pennant in 14 years. Later that night, after Cincinnati’s Chico Ruiz stole home for the only run of Cincinnati’s 1-0 win at Philadelphia, the wheels fell off for the Quaker Citys.

That loss started a ten-game losing streak that saw the Philadelphias fall behind, and eventually lose the pennant to, the hard-charging St. Louis club. It would be another 12 years before Philadelphia would see post-season baseball; 16 before capturing that elusive pennant. The team’s collapse has simply become known as “The Fold”.

In the junior circuit, New York won again for their fifth straight pennant. But New Yorkers could not have foreseen what was to come; a 13-year wait for another post-season appearance … their dynasty, which won 21 pennants since their first in 1921, was over.

Fittingly, the St. Louis boys, fresh from stalking down Philadelphia, took the title in a seven-game classic as New York’s reign of terror ended with a bang.

You can relive this historic season with SherCo … where every player who appeared in a game has been rated using both our Classic and Plus formulas.
