The home club of the great Bobby Jones was originally finalized as a championship course by Donald Ross in 1913 back in the days when its owner, the Atlanta Athletic Club, had John Heisman as its athletic director. Its warm weather location makes it suitable as a host for the season ending Tour Championship, which it first hosted in 1998. With the advent of the build up around the Fedex Cup, the course has been witness to its share of drama. Who can forget Bill Haas pitching the ball from the shallow water on the 20th hole to extend the playoff against Hunter Mahan? East Lake was also the site of the 1963 Ryder Cup.
