First published in 2001 by Decisive-Action Sports, Inc., Classic Hockey is a unique historical simulation that enables players to replay games from seasons as far back as 1909 or to create “what if” inter-year scenarios among teams of different eras through a quick-play game engine. Replay a team’s schedule, an entire season for a league, or put together a dream tournament with teams from different timeframes.
Teams, rated for offense, defense, and clutch-scoring ability, will perform similarly as they did in real life. 1983-84 Edmonton’s free-wheeling offense, which averaged nearly 6 goals per game, will light up the scoreboard frequently but an average defense will yield more than a few goals. By contrast, 2002-03 New Jersey’s trap-based system will tally on average less than 3 goals per game, but its stingy and opportunistic defense will shut down opponents on most nights in low-scoring contests.
Depending on the level of detail desired, a single game of Classic Hockey can take from 2 to 10 minutes to play. Play instant results or period-by-period in three game turns. Add optional rules to provide elements such as defensive struggles, pulling the goalie, shootouts, travel fatigue and the effects of the season grind. Log player and team statistics with the box score generator. String a series of games into a season-long campaign using historical scheduling or Stanley Cup playoff format for a given year.
Leagues included with the game are the National Hockey Association (1909-17), Pacific Coast Hockey Association (1911-24), National Hockey League (1917-Present), West Coast Hockey League (1921-26), and the World Hockey Association (1972-79). The separate Olympic Supplement adds international flair with teams and tournaments, including: the Olympic Games from 1920-2018, the Canada Cup, World Cup of Hockey, and the Soviet teams that scrimmaged the NHL between 1975 and 1991.
The Classic Hockey box score generator is an optional add-on that allows gamers to create and record individual player and team-based statistics through a system that utilizes annual season media guides. Formatted like a yearbook, these media guides include rosters, team and player ratings, schedules, and a season-in-review historical write-up. Media guides for different seasons are sold separately.
Classic Hockey is geared for campaigns and can be used reliably in conjunction with coaching-level games, such as Big Bep Hockey, to facilitate season replays for an entire league. Abstract the results for various games on the schedule or use the box score generator and incorporate the statistics into a league’s season records.
The Classic Hockey base game includes a 37-page rule book (including a bonus history section of professional team genealogies from the Montreal Shamrocks to the Las Vegas Golden Knights), game charts, and team ratings for five professional leagues spanning 1909-2018. Scoresheets and box score worksheets can be downloaded for free at the ASG website. The Olympic Supplement and Box Score Generator are sold separately, including the season media guides and a special WHA edition.

CB2K College Basketball 2000 The crowd is going crazy. The home team calls a timeout, down 71-70. Players from both teams head to the benches as the coaches contemplate the instructions to be given to their players. The players begin to discuss what just happened and what will happen after the timeout. The crowd eagerly anticipates the end of the timeout to resume the final 0:05 of play. They just witnessed the visitors sink a baseline jump shot to take the one point lead, followed by a quick inbound and dribble to half court by the home team. The players return from the timeout and the ball is inbounded to the point guard at the top of the key after coming off two screens. The point guard drives and…hits the game winning jumper from the foul line…has the ball stolen to end the game…is fouled on the shot for two free throws…sends a nice dish to the center for a game winning dunk…???
