Pebble Beach World Match Play Championship

After just 4 holes, #7 seed 2009 Mike Weir had a commanding 3 UP advantage over #2 seed 2011 Luke Donald as Donald struggled to find his game.  But Luke came back with a birdie on the short par 3 7th hole and he took the 8th hole with a par to cut Weir’s lead to 1 UP at the turn.  The momentum was in Donald’s favor on the 10th hole as he birdied the tough par 4 446 Yarder to put this match at ALL SQUARE.   The 11th hole was HALVED with pars but Weir hit a great shot 5 feet from the pin on the 202 Yard par 3 12th hole (the 5th most difficult so far with only 56% GIR) and he sunk that putt for birdie to take a 1 UP lead!  Holes 13 thru 15 were HALVED with pars and Weir won the 16th hole with another par as Donald struggled from tee to green carding a double bogey 6.  Now with a 2 UP advantage with 2 holes to play, Weir got a HALVE on the par 3 17th hole with a bogey to win this match 2 & 1!  So, #7 seed 2009 Mike Weir has just knocked out another 2 seed as this #2 seed in the Sam Snead Bracket, 2011 Luke Donald, is eliminated.  With Donald falling, all the #2 and #3 seeds have now been eliminated from the Pebble Beach World Match Play Championship upon completion of this 47th Match!
