The 10th Annual Wells Fargo Championship opened at Quail Hallow, Charlotte, NC. The 7442 yard, Par 72 layout has provided a stepping stone to the Player Championship in May.
Tiger Woods opened the tournament with a searing 65 followed by Kyle Stanley one stroke back at 66 followed by Chad Collins two stokes back with a 67.
Bill Haas soared to the lead climbing 20 spots with an even better 63 at -10 than the previous days 65 by Tiger Woods who blew up on the course with a terrible 76. Nick Watney trailed Bill Haas by a stroke at -9 in second. Kyle Stanley joined David Duval and J. J. Henry two strokes back at -7 in third to highlight Fridays action and cut day.
Catch up Saturday brought on the field with Brandt Jobe took over 1st at -9. Mike Weir joined past champion Anthony Kim, rejuvenated Chad Collins and Thomas Bjorn from the initial round on Thursday at -7 with David Duval and Nick Watney in 2nd. Martin Laird finished in 3rd at -6.
Sunday opened with Brandt Jobe falling by the wayside almost immediately. Thomas Bjorn and Chad Collins either had the lead or shared the lead for most of the day. In the end David Duval watched both opponents fall to the wayside on the Green mile (16, 17, 18) and he prevailed over the last three holes.
