Corey Pavin, US Open winner, former Ryder Cup Captain, and two time winner of the Colonial, won for a third time by one stroke over Rickie Fowler at the Colonial Country Club. His last victory in this tournament was in 1996 having won also in 1985.
His 268 total was two off his best finish in 1985 at 266.
Corey Pavin, playing in his 27th Colonial opened with a near perfect 63 making 8 birdies and one bogey at 7 under. Greg Chalmers also opened with a 63 to share first with Corey. Geoff Ogilvy played a bogey free round with 6 birdies in second at 6 under. Hunter Mehan, Rickie Fowler joined Zack Johnson in third at 5 under.
With winds picking up on Friday drying out the course even more under its already hard conditions. Corey Pavin increased his lead by three over the rest of the field to 10 under on cut day. Geoff Ogilvy maintained 2nd with only 4 birdies and 3 bogeys. Rickie Fowler moved up one place to share 2nd with Geoff. Five golfers, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, Greg Chalmers, Chris DiMarco, and Hunter Mahan all shared 3rd place at 6 under.
Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar both closed on Cory Pavin on move day which never materialized. Corey Pavin held off both going to 12 under. Rickie Fowler at 11 under and Matt Kuchar at 10 under.
The winds picked on Sunday and Corey Pavin and Rickie Fowler played each other to a drew at 70 allowing Cory Pavin to win the Colinal for a third time. Kevin Streelman fired his third 66 and finished tied with Spencer Levin at 10 under for third.
